The Strobel and Lasting

When making shoes, there are two common manufacturing processes: Strobel and Lasting. Let's briefly introduce them today.

The Strobel focuses on using clamps to shape the upper material onto the shoe last;
The Lasting is a more systematic and tightly controlled stretching, shaping, and securing process that emphasizes the fit of the leather to the last. Typically, Goodyear Welted is followed by stitching or a more secure bonding.

The Strobel:

Definition and Characteristics: Primarily refers to the mechanical action of clamping the upper material to the bottom of the shoe last using clamps.

Applicable Scenarios: Mainly used for preliminary shaping, through machine stretching and shaping of the upper.

Details: Compared to the systematic Goodyear Welted process, this method focuses more on the action of "clamping," securing the upper in the shape of the last.

The Lasting:

Definition and Characteristics: A systematic engineering process that pulls the upper material down to fit the last and securely connects the inner and outer surfaces with the insole using nails or glue.

Advantages: Allows precise control over the tightness of the upper and the extensibility of the material, ensuring that the shoe not only has a perfect shape (fitting the last) but also a stable structure.

Delicate Craftsmanship: If done by hand, the Lasting process usually involves multiple iterations, with pulling and adjusting, testing the shoemaker's experience.

Connection and Essential Differences:
The Lasting usually includes the action of clamping (using clamps to pull the leather), but it is a systematic process that encompasses stretching, shaping, and securing.

The Strobel is commonly used for lightweight, flexible casual shoes, sports shoes, and children's shoes, sewing the upper to the sole;

The lasting is often used for formal leather shoes, sports shoe heels, and high heels that require shaping and structural stability, ensuring the shoe fits the last.

The Strobel emphasizes flexibility, while the lasting focuses on shaping and support.
